Welcome to the First Grade page! My name is Mrs. Baker. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Cortland. My Master’s Degree is from California State University, Fullerton in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught throughout the United States in grades Kindergarten-Second Grade. Most of my teaching years I have spent in First Grade and I absolutely love First Graders! Mrs. P. (short for Mrs. Piakowski) will be the First Grade aide. She helps the students daily, takes the most amazing photographs and loves all things with Peanuts characters.
My teaching style is a hands-on approach with active learning through the use of centers, Daily 5 Reading and differentiated instruction in Mathematics. We like to have fun in our class and student choice is one way my students are empowered to reach new heights in learning! We attend Mass weekly and your child will have Religion instruction daily. I believe in a strong home and school connection and that by working as a team we will help your child become the best he/she can be in First Grade. Most of all, I hope your child develops a lifelong love of reading and learning! I look forward to a positive and rewarding year, both academically and spiritually with your First Grader.
